The Magneto-Optic Imager™ is a portable system that produces images showing irregularities and discontinuities in the inspected material. Rivet holes, cracks, and subsurface corrosion are readily visible. The MOI™ uses eddy current imaging, which is a technology which allows non-destructive inspection of most ferromagnetic and non-ferromagnetic metals.
The MOI™ incorporates many of the features and capabilities of eddy-current testing, and provides the results in an easy-to-interpret visual manner. The instrument has been optimized for the inspection of riveted lap joints in the fuselage skin of aircraft; however, most relatively flat surfaces or larger radius curved surfaces (e.g., gathering and transmission pipelines) capable of conducting electricity may be examined.
The aircraft, nuclear power, and petrochemical industries are a few of the typical business areas which can benefit from this equipment. The MOI™ has recently proven to be useful in locating stress corrosion cracking in pipelines.
